Oleta River State Park
Oleta River State Park

About 30 minutes north of Downtown Miami, Oleta River State Park feels worlds away from the city. Rent a kayak, bike the shady trails, or just dip your toes in the quiet Biscayne Bay inlet. It’s the largest urban park in Florida (and proof you don’t have to leave the city to find nature). Spot birds like great blue herons, pelicans, and roseate spoonbills and keep an eye out for friendly dolphins and manatees. And of course, alligators! Pro tip: BYO picnic.

Little Havana
Little Havana

Venture off the beaten track and find yourself in… Cuba! If you’ve got extra time, head to Little Havana for strong cafecitos topped with frothy crema, hand-rolled cigars, and the sound of dominoes slapping tables in Maximo Gomez Park. Walk Calle Ocho (the bustling main thoroughfare), stop at Ball & Chain for live music, or grab a bite at Versailles, the city’s most iconic Cuban restaurant. Seriously, the Cuban sandwiches and guava pastelitos are incredible.

Best times to visit

There’s no bad time to catch a show in The Magic City. But some seasons hit differently to others.

Winter (Dec-Feb) is prime time. Snowbirds fly in (they don’t call Miami the Sixth Borough for nothing), the weather’s dreamy, and the citywide event calendar is packed. This includes loads of shows at James L. Knight Center.

Spring (Mar-May) brings music tours, art events, family shows, and food fests to Miami. This is when shows like the Forrest Frank Child of God Tour Part 2 come to town. The weather’s warm but not too humid.

Summer (Jun-Aug) gets hot and sticky, but the energy is unmatched. At the Knight Center Miami expect reggaetón-heavy lineups, club-ready crowds, DJ sets, and events that run late.

Fall (Sep-Nov) is shoulder season: fewer tourists, lower hotel rates, and plenty of great gigs for those in the know.

Local tips you won’t find on your ticket

Pre-show cafecito: Litte Havana is the place to get a cafecito in Miami but for something closer to the venue try El Sitio Coffee Bar.

Best selfie spot: The bridge just outside the venue gives you the downtown skyline, river, and sunset all in one frame.

Pro tip for parking: Skip the high-priced valet and use SpotHero to book a garage nearby.
